On April 19th, 2025, I had the honor of attending On April 19th, 2025, I had the honor of attending the ๐ˆ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ซ ๐‚๐ข๐ซ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐–๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ in collaboration with the ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—–๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€. I was invited as one of the expert speakers to share on the topic:

The goal of this impactful event was threefold:
1. To highlight the importance of
2. To provide the audience with ๐ž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฆ๐ž๐œ๐ก๐š๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ for navigating lifeโ€™s challenges.

As I spoke and connected with attendees, one thing became clear to me. There is a deep need to bridge the gap between parents and children, to better understand each otherโ€™s mental and emotional needs, and to normalize taking time off simply for ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐›๐ž๐ข๐ง๐ .

We must begin to ๐›๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ค ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐ฒ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐š that has long surrounded mental health in our communities. It was truly heartwarming to meet so many passionate individuals and engage with various African communities who are ready for change. Iโ€™m grateful for the opportunity and remain hopeful for a future where ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐ž๐, ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ž๐, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐›๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ก๐จ๐ฆ๐ž.

Attending the Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) 3 Attending the Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) 30th Annual Conference on April 16th -18th was a powerful and inspiring experience. It was wonderful to connect with so many autism and disability advocates. People who are deeply committed to creating more inclusive communities and amplifying the voices of those often unheard.

The MNLEND program has long been a proud community partner in support of this important conference, and this year was no exception. As the MNLEND Coordinator, it was an honor to table at the event, engaging with attendees who stopped by to learn more about the MNLEND program. These moments allowed me to connect and listen to personal disability and mental health stories and experiences, each one a reminder of why this work matters so much.

I was also joined by several MNLEND Fellows and alumni, who took the opportunity to attend sessions, network, and even present at the conference. Their presence added depth and representation to the conversations around autism, equity, and systems change.

One of the key messages that stayed with me in attending the conference was the call for continued advocacy for inclusivity and the importance of reaching out to legislators.

This powerful takeaway served as a reminder for all of us, advocates, professionals, and community members alike, to keep our legislators informed and accountable. It reignited a shared urgency to speak up and ensure disability voices are not only heard but prioritized.

The conference was also a sobering reflection that, while weโ€™ve made progress, we still have a long way to go in this country when it comes to disability rights and true inclusion.

It affirmed the need to keep fighting, through policy, education, and community action, until inclusion becomes the norm, and not the exception.
